I am a CPA & an Accounting Sr. Lecturer who brings real-world experience to the classroom to help educate the accountants of tomorrow.
Teaching Highlights:
Since joining academia, I have developed new courses, been honored with Online Professor of the Year, and implemented courses and teaching methodologies, such as flipped classrooms, that are relevant, engaging and current to the profession resulting in high-ranked student evaluations and greater learning. As part of growing the pipeline of accounting students and future CPAs, I Chair the Partners in Education committee at the Dallas CPA Society as well as the Relations with Academic Institutions Committee at Texas Society of CPAs and I serve on the Board of Directors of the Texas Society of CPAs.
For 4 years I lead the MS Accounting Program at the University of Texas at Dallas as Director. In this capacity I was responsible for all phases of the student life cycle, including recruitment, admissions review, curriculum, career planning and alumni relations. In that time we saw increased enrollment, enhanced the degree plan, implemented social media & online communications and managed a diverse set of student needs through programming and student organizations.
Public Accounting & Industry Experience:
Prior to joining academia I was a Sr. Auditor at PwC, an Assistant Controller at Southwest Securities and an Accounting Manager at Dr Pepper Snapple Group. In these roles I worked across a variety of back-office and operational functions ranging from Sarbanes-Oxley controls documentation and implementation, new system development, business process improvement, month-end close, budgeting and variance analysis.
